This necklace is fine quality 73 ct. Brazilian Tourmaline with quad coloring throughout the stone. Kyla discovered this gem at an antique / estate event and saw how special it was.
Estimated to be made in the 1960s, this tourmaline is very unique due to high demand in tourmaline, as it is very difficult to find this size of required gem rough in order to cut a stone of this size.
This gorgeous pendant is in excellent condition. Kyla removed the stone from the mounting to weigh it properly and made certain it was in perfect condition as it awaits its new home.
The inclusions are the perfect imperfections which add to the story of the origin of the stone.
The dynamic color range in this stone is what captures the eye and makes this a unique statement piece. It ranges from a vibrant green to blue green, then violet blue to a navy blue.
Tourmalines were discovered in the 1500's and were mistaken as emeralds until the 1800s when scientists determined it was a new gemstone species. One of the earliest reports of tourmaline in the United States was in California in 1892. In the late 1800s, tourmaline became known as an American gem through the efforts of Tiffany gemologist George F. Kunz. Tourmaline forms in a range of colors from bright reddish pink, pale pink, peach, yellow, vivid green, and blue.
